When I walked past the house of Catherina Saburov I noticed an Executor standing watch. He noticed me staring at him and motioned for me to come over.
Bachelor: Can I help somehow?
Executor: Well, she is just an ordinary human, even if she is one of the Adherents. You are the doctor, you should know how medicine works.
Bachelor: Ok, I'll try to think of something.
Catherina is under the watch of the Devotress. What horrible schemes has she gotten her involved with? I guess I can't trust the Devotress, so I have to take this matter into my own hands if I want Catherina to live through this. I know for sure that the antibiotics will help for a while, but I don't have any with me right now. I'll have to check the medicine shops in town for that. Maybe there is something else I can use?
The whole town is under close watch by the army today. I'll need some help in getting Peter out of this alive. His brother is usually in some corner of this bar. I hope he hasn't got arrested already.
Bachelor: You're talking like Gryph! What did you do this time?!
Andrey: I was actually quoting Gryph. He loves saying things like that. He thinks it gives him luck when using the weapon. It's scary, you know, killing someone. I know I'll have to pay for this.
Bachelor: ... Who the hell did you kill?
Andrey: You see, my dear brother now sees angels and fairies and is talking to his bottles. He's having a strange argument with his drinks, and it seems like he'd rather listen to them than speaking up himself. Well, then it all got to his head and as I understood it he decided that he was at his limit, and that it was time to put his destiny to the test.
Bachelor: When did all this begin? Yesterday?
Andrey: He had some strange visions and wanted to walk around his earlier works. Those ugly ruins, the stairways to heaven, that you can see here and there. He said he wanted to find a place for something, to pick the best one. For what, I do not understand.
Bachelor: So what kind of adventure did you two get into?
Andrey: He ran into the streets, crazy and shouting incoherently. He met some of the soldiers, and started screaming at them. They took him back to his home, where he seems to have struggled a lot. He made them quite angry, and they started to beat the life out of him. I barely got there in time and, well, you know me...
Bachelor: Too well. Do you understand the consequences of what you've done?
Andrey: What do you expect! I shall settle my affairs here, and after that I will never leave him on his own again. In this town he'll be eternally tortured because of his genius. He can't even poke his nose out of the door without being struck by lightning! But you know it, you and I are the same. Now I shall not leave my brother, and I won't let anybody come close to him again.
Bachelor: While you are boasting here, he might already be too far from you... We better find him fast.
At this point I've realized that with over 60 bullets for the rifle and the end in sight, there's no reason not to go completely balistics with the army rifle. Strangely enough it's rather relaxing to go shoot people in the head after so much time trying desperately to fight with the knife.
If we really need it there is more ammo to be bought from Gryph and sometimes the normal stores as well.
This must be the place that patrol officer warned me about earlier. Someone has spilled some thick greasy liquid all over the entrance and lit it on fire. It smells really foul and made my head spin when I inhaled some of the fumes. This must be where Peter is hiding. I can see someone hiding behind the fence.
With all this rubble around, it isn't too hard to climb over the fence. The man on the other side was wearing one of those strange masks, and he almost threw a flaming bottle at me before he realized it was me.
Bachelor: You look like hell, man... When did you become the cremation master? Do you really want to die this way?
Peter: Be quiet and listen to my confession. It's better to confess to you than to her. Listen, and I shall tell you what I have managed to create. When I studied architecture, I did not create anything for a long time. I just observed. It always seemed to me that all buildings are more than just walls and a roof.
Bachelor: I'm listening.
Peter: At last I realized that a building was a combination of planes, lines, rhythms and temperatures that would be the ideal repository for a certain soul. Not a human soul, but one of another kind. A soul with no form or voice, that man cannot communicate with.
Bachelor: Are you saying a building is born?
Peter: I do not know. I did not know of this soul at the time, I just felt that something like it existed, and I loved it already. When this passion burned the strongest, I understood that I could not live like that anymore. I wanted to speak to it in it's own language, and I wanted to see it clearly!
Bachelor: Go on...
Peter: I started to design constructions that were very different from the usual ones. Homes where ordinary people couldn't live. Everyone pointed a finger at my temples and called me mad and talentless. Only my brother believed me.
Bachelor: And what came out of that?
Peter: At last I understood that I was on the right way! I found some wild but strangely alluring feature, something only a man in love would recognize. I constructed one project after another, but all of them were strange and the other architects told me they could not possibly be built in this world. Obviously, my beloved soul could not find a permanent shelter in something so mundane as to be tied to the so called laws of terrestial physics.
Bachelor: So what did you do?
Peter: Nobody would have allowed me to realize my constructions even on a small scale! If it were not for the wild Nina! Oh, when me and my brother met her. She had just married Victor Kain, and moved here. She provided me with everything! The land, materials and most importantly people ready to believe in a miracle.
Bachelor: What do you mean?
Peter: You see, the buildings need people. People who form a strong tie to them. Museums, monuments, models, games of the mind. This was no longer just about my feelings. Nina gave me the whole living town, thirsting, striving for the heavens. The town wanted a crown, and I gave it one.
Bachelor: And so...
Peter: I built it from prisms and mirrors. I managed to create a special focus out of them, like a magician! I have focused this aura of magic, as a lense focuses solar beams. And now this town perishes, and my precious crown is impregnated with poison.
Bachelor: So you decided to just run from it all?
Peter: Yes. I took the blueprints of my beloved child with me. But everything has gone wrong. There is no other place where I can make my dreams come true, and now I am trapped here, waiting for my end.
Bachelor: Give them to me, then. I will take care of them.
Peter: My friend! You see, I am thirsty. Bring me some bottles of twyrine, and you will have the drawings. Anyway, no one else will understand what is written on them. Even if they could, it's not possible to build anything like it anymore.
Bachelor: I have a few bottles of twyrine with me. Now give me the drawings.
Peter: Handle the bottles with care. The twyrine burn easily. Oh, have you seen the way it burns already? Like fireworks, dark green, blue, scarlet and black fire. Soon I will burn just like that!
Bachelor: Stop! There is something you need to do. Help your brother. He's gotten into trouble for you. He killed the soldiers that attacked you.
Peter: I've been suffering for ten years because of him.
Bachelor: So you do not care?
Peter: No one cares anymore.
Bachelor: I do care. Soon I shall prove it to you.
Some of the notes seemed strangely familiar, but I can't quite place it. I took out my drawing of the town and added some details. There's still a nagging feeling in my head that something is still missing.
Summary: We have the blueprints for the Polyhedron. Hopefully the Inquisitor will understand some of it, and we can use whatever techniques made it safe from the Sand Plague to help out the rest of the town.
We have also discovered that Catherina, one of the Devotress' Adherents, has fallen ill! It seems to happen randomly regardless of what you do. She isn't dead yet, but if we want to talk to her we need to give her some sort of medicine. There are still tasks tied to her, so we need to help her.
What should we give Catherina? Antibiotics will help for a few days, but maybe there's another way?
