danko day 9 part 5 (21:46)

21:46 on Day 9

I felt like I was waking up from a restless dream. Khan must have done something to get me here, but I can't remember what.

It took me a full minute to get my head to stop spinning. What is this place? A spiraling staircase with nothing holding it in place. It reminded me of the Polyhedron, but it's like it was turned inside out.

There's quite a lot of kids in here, but it isn't nearly as big as I expected. Maybe there are other rooms up above?

The walls are covered in drawings and strange writing. A few of them looks like some sort of blueprint, but mostly it's just, well, stories. Like the stories you would read to your children, except written like an adult would write their memoirs. It almost feels like I'm inside of a book.

There are also these strange cranes, made by the same kind of material as the walls. It's like a floating piece of papery concrete, but made of air... My head hurts just trying to come up with the right words for it.

As I climbed the stairs further, I started to feel drowsy again. But not like when you want to go to sleep. It was more like waking up backwards.

: I thought you would be back sooner.

Bachelor: What was what, Khan?

Khan: What have you seen?

Bachelor: What is it made of? Paper or something?

Khan: Oh, so you were actually able to see clearly? Did you manage to see what was going on behind the first facet? The contents of the various facets are written down on the walls. We write down our dreams and hopes.

Bachelor: I saw a sort of well, with staircases spiraling upward.

Khan: Oh, that is quite far! Did someone instruct you in how to do this?

Bachelor: No, no one has been willing to really explain anything about the tower to me before.

Khan: So you haven't seen the mirrors yet?

Bachelor: Ehm, I don't think so. But that place didn't look very big and there were only a few children there. Where is everyone?

Khan: What do you mean, where? Behind the facets. There we dream of each other, day and night. Most of us are together in one of the dreams. Only those who have been thrown out go to the stairwell.

Bachelor: Thrown out? What do you mean?

Khan: There is death and danger in some of the dreams. If someone dies here is being thrown out of the dream and end up at the stairs. From there he can return, but it takes quite some time to recover first. Well, some of them return to the stairs by themselves when the emotional tension becomes too much.

Bachelor: This is hard to accept... I hope you're not playing tricks on me.

Khan: You will never understand this, because you have already grown up. Adults are unable to see anything here. Why do you think Petr Stamatin hits the bottle? Because of this. He has created this magic but is unable to take part of it. Do you know how painful that is?

Bachelor: Maybe I should talk to him again later.

Something was bugging me. I took out the sketch I started a few days ago and stared at it before adding to it.

I don't know why I didn't draw the tower in earlier, but it obviously should be there. Overshadowing the town as some sort of bird-like thing... Reminds me of the Executors, but thankfully they are not nearly as tall.

All these strange events has left me completely drained.

I had to be very careful not falling off the stairs on the way down. Strangely, the stone foundation didn't really seem as solid as it used to...

I make some use of the storage space next to your bed. We've got quite a large variety of items by now, and we generally use antibiotics when it's time to sleep. Sometimes you keep quest items for no reason as well, but I figured I'd put them somewhere safe just in case.

It felt really good to flung myself onto the soft bed.

Summary: We've seen the inside of the tower, but annoyingly enough we only got to explore a little bit of it. There weren't anything wrong with the place, though, so we have to assume the infection hasn't gotten inside. It's pretty much the only safe place in the entire town, so I'm glad the kids are hiding in there.

I have no idea what will happen tomorrow, but we have a few leads. If the disease comes from the underground, there is probably some place where it is concentrated. Maybe under some garbage dump or factory building? We should also see if we can get some more information about the Tower from the architect brothers.

And let's not forget the theater this time!

The men with the flamethrowers just stand there all day and all night, ready to flame anything that moves. Don't they ever sleep?

The pantomime for night 9 has just started.

I'd heed an order to destroy every building in the city, and shoot down anybody who doesn't die under artillery fire. The army always appears when nothing can be done. But I am the one who likes to break tradition. I know that people are able to change the flow of the catastrophe acted here all along. We will destroy only what the healer with the best argumentation suggests.

Maybe it's better not to shoot anywhere at all.

If I don't shoot, the consequences will be disastrous. You want freedom of choice? Then choose! Either mass artillery fire or a single blow. Any way, we will end this circus.
