Now I can only wait and see how this turns out. I feel like just falling asleep now, but there are still some things I have to take care of. I should check in with the General first.
I better stock up on food for tomorrow. All this cash in my pocket is going to waste.
I honestly don't know why I spent so much energy during the first days to earn cash. In many ways the Bachelor has it easy. Guns, money and women.
Boy: Daddy couldn't defeat the soldiers! There we too many, even with me helping. They tried to catch me too, but I kicked one and broke his nose and then ran away.
Bachelor: What happened to your father?
Boy: He was taken away with the others. They took everyone from our street! The boss said we were the ones making trouble yesterday and marched everyone off to the cemetery. Then I don't know!
Bachelor: I think this is serious. I'll try to find your daddy.
Bachelor: There's been more trouble. Some of your soldiers are staging another execution.
General: I know about that already.
Bachelor: Excuse me?
General: It's almost impossible for me to bear this any more. My units refuse to obey me! Each morning I lose more and more soldiers. More and more join the rebel faction. My only consolation is that the cowardly rebels falls to the plague quicker than we do. It's their award for their mutiny.
Bachelor: What units have been causing trouble lately?
General: Unit fifteen which is part of the sanitary brigade as well as part of the forty-second rifle battalion. Mostly new and inexperienced troops. They were placed under my command for the duration of this disaster.
Bachelor: How do I tell them apart from your regular soldiers?
General: You don't! They wear the same uniform. But if a soldier is not at his post, he's a damn deserter and a criminal. We'll give him the proper punishment if we find him. This is not a situation where we can afford to be soft on them.
Bachelor: What shall I do about them? I fear these rebels of yours are out for blood today.
General: Kill them on the spot. Don't let them think they are safe. I'm doing my best already, but we don't have enough forces to keep them under control. But a few clear examples will help.
Bachelor: Well, I think I will have to make a few examples soon.
I'll have to rush down to the graveyard. Hopefully I can slip by any problems in the general chaos of town.
Stop! Don't shoot!
I fired off a warning shot, hoping they'd get scared and run off. The general said they were mostly inexperienced.
No such luck. I barely made it behind cover!
The general was right, however. These men must have been new recruits. They weren't really good at aiming. I don't doubt they'd be able to handle an execution, though.
Man: I thank you, doctor. We couldn't handle them, but you're a skillful fighter. One more minute and we'd be...
Bachelor: Are you the father of the kids in the city hall?
Man: I hope no one there has hurt them.
Bachelor: No, they are fine, but worried. You should hurry over there.
Boy: When I grow up, I'll get a gun. Then nobody can break into our home! I'll shoot anyone that tries to beat our daddy!
Bachelor: Don't be upset. I saved your daddy, and he'll be back soon.
Boy: Okay. Then you can have these bullets I found.
Girl: And I have a box of medicine for you. Do you want it?
Bachelor: You shouldn't play around with such dangerous things.
18:22 on Day 11
Finally, time for some sleep. It's not very late in the day but I'm already dead tired. And I haven't had a cup of coffee in weeks!
There's not much going on out on the streets tonight, it seems.
The bed is as messy as when I last used it. I guess I'm not very good at showing hospitality, but it doesn't really matter anymore.
Last time we need to sleep, so I downed a painkiller and had a good bit of eating afterward. I was kind of expecting something horrible to happen when the clock hit midnight, but it only said the theater was open again.
Ah, I feel wonderful! A mouthful of painkiller and a full nights sleep and I'm as good as new! Thought, it's only just after midnight, and I am already fully awake. I think I'll take a short walk to the theater and see the new pantomime.
Oh, and there are three new letters on the bed stand. There must have been a few messengers over while I slept. I must have been out like a light. I'll just put them in my pocket for now and read them later.
Hmm, something feels very strange today. I can't put my finger on it, but the town almost feels melancholic.
(Warning for uneven volume at the start)VIDEO - The final part of the theater play.
Transcript of the theater play.
Voice 1: No matter what I do, something must be sacrificed.
Voice 2: Destruction is inevitable. A miracle will not happen.
Voice 3: Blood will be spilled anyhow. There's no hope left.
Voice 2: That's how they think, you see? Everything has to fulfill it's own destiny. We will see, at least, which one is able to do it better.
Voice 3: Each of them wants to save their own. Maybe, they will be able to get along.
Voice 2: Impossible. There's not enough room at the interrogation table for everyone. If the general sits at one side and the inquisitor at the other, one will choose. The rest will perish.
The theater gave me some ideas, so I took out my sketch of the town and scribbled in some more.
Summary: We have about 23 hours to deal with whatever this last day holds. The theater said there was a final choice to be made, but we don't know exactly what it is yet.
