"I woke up after a good five hours of sleep. The painkillers and antibiotics seems to be helping quite a bit, although I am not very comfortable at the thought of being so dependent on them."
"Suddenly remembering the lens Rubin gave me, I decided to see if I could figure out it's uses. A few days ago, Lara Ravel provided me with one of these lenses as well as some document. Each lens is filled with a translucent liquid, and it seems that by gently heating them you could detect what was only described as some sort of haze in the air. The notes were not very clear on this point as to the scientific details, but the instructions for use indicated that it would be helpful in avoiding the Sand Plague. After my experiences in the infected district earlier today, I hoped that I would not need it, but I decided to keep the lenses ready just in case."
"It seems like Simon Kain had worked together with Isidor Burakh for some time to construct something similar to a monocle that would hold several lenses. After some improvisation, I managed to create something similar, although the heating arrangement gave me some trouble. After just a few minutes of use my visor-like construction becomes uncomfortably hot and needs to cool down. For now there is only room for one lens. If I have the time I can probably add in more later on."
"Afterward, I had dinner with Eve. She didn't eat much, even after all my attempts to reassure her that we had enough food for both of us and that I could secure more. I was starved myself so I ate as much as I could. When I asked her to accompany me to the Theater she refused, saying she did not want to leave the house for any reason. She also mentioned that Saburov had sent a courier with some letters for me. "

This is an appeal to patrolmen, hospital attendants, couriers and executors. This notice is confidential. In order to prevent panic, do not spread among the civilians.
The disease is incurable. No serum exists. Most likely, no serum will be sent from the capital. But there are also good news.
1. The probability of contracting the disease drops considerably with the use of immunity medicines. At present, it is verified that the so called Alpha (yellow) and Beta (dark blue) tablets help. Remember that large doses of these medicines can be harmful to your health.
2. For increased protection against disease, wear synthetic clothes. Avoid woolen clothes completely due to the risk of parasites. The clothes need to be changed regularly.
3. The disease does not develop at a steady rate. At the early stage, the growth of the disease can be held back by antibiotics. However, from repeated contacts with contaminated objects the disease will grow exponentially.
4. The disease does not spread by air. The paths of contamination are at present unknown. Preliminary data indicates that at early stages of development the disease is not infectious at all. In this case, communication with healthy people is not explicitly forbidden by officials.
Signed, Acting Commandant of Executors
PS for Bachelor Dankovskiy: In the view of your special mission, it is most likely that you cannot completely avoid contamination. If you get infected, do not despair! Maintain the illness at the incubation stage and use antibiotics. Sooner or later you will find a serum. You may want to investigate the rumors of the so called "children powders".

This is an appeal to the town dwellers.
Citizens! The town authorities are hereby announcing a state of emergency due to the outbreak of a fatal disease known under the name Sand Plague.
The disease is extremely infectious. The ways it is spreading are not yet sufficiently studied. Preliminary data shows that the disease can spread only by contact with contaminated objects or people. There is currently no antidote available in town. The serum and other medicine are expected to arrive by a train from the capital. Be careful!
Citizens are forbidden to leave the town. Remember that the probability of contracting the disease is considerably reduced if you stay within enclosed rooms. Sterilize all table ware and clothes by boiling. Exterminate all pests such as rats.
Do not yield to panic! Mail and rations of water, food, medicine and other essentials will be delivered by doctors, executors and official couriers. Please write down all inquiries and requests in letters and leave them near your front door for these couriers.
This appeal is written on behalf of Bachelor Dankovskiy and is approved by the acting town mayor Alexander Saburov. All orders from Daknovskiy must be followed.
"Although I doubt that any of this would be news to anyone in town at this point, these are good instructions for limiting the damage from the Sand Plague. I will send my approval to Alexander Saburov in the morning."
"The town is quite spooky at night. Although the Theater isn't much of an improvement to the mood, I am glad I made it there. The third part of the Pantomime is just starting."
This video shows you how fighting in Pathologic works, as well as what to do and what not to do against the robbers. I tend to get in a bit too close and end up getting injured a few times. As you can see during the second fight, the back stab move is very hard to pull off. I failed and only did a normal attack, which wasn't enough to kill fast enough. But don't worry about health loss, we got tons of painkillers.
Voice 1: Well?
Voice 2: It's afraid of dead bodies. In an instant, gone from the diseased! It's determined, if you are careful and hide properly, you can live through this. The glass will save the best, just as foretold.
Voice 1: What does that mean?
Voice 3 (Danko?): It means that we can still fight back. The stimulus lives only in live cells and is afraid of dead surfaces. Those who have a better chance to survive hide inside their houses. Running around in the open is a road to death. In general, we can fight
Voice 1: You scoundrel! You have your own interest here. You are always glad to fight. What about the people?
Voice 2: Pshh, don't interrupt him. He's already thought of something.
Voice 4?: It's all not good!
"I spent some time rummaging in the trash on the way home. Many of the houses are still lit but I very much doubt anyone would leave the safety of their homes to see who it was. Once in my bedroom again, I decided to take stock of my possessions and plan ahead for tomorrow, before going to bed again."
Summary: The antibiotics worked well enough, so we do not have to risk using the powders. At least not yet. The streets are still dangerous at night, but we are quite capable of knife fighting. However, our knives are getting a bit dull, and I haven't found a new one for quite a long time. Well, we can solve that by using the revolver a bit more.
We now have our first Visor. I'll show you what it does later. We could technically have used it back when we got the first lens, but there wasn't much to look at back then.

Overall status: Day three looked bleak, but we completed our quests very early and had plenty of time to rest. We will have to be a bit more careful later on, especially when it comes to managing our Infection. Antibiotics are expensive! Other than that, we have a relatively high amount of supplies. We probably won't have to buy food for several days. We are, however, slowly running out of cash, and we still need to either find a new knife or repair the old one. I will have to be a bit more frugal with the money, I think.
GOON1: Is that... is that a child laughing and clapping excitedly every time you kill someone?
ReplyDeleteGOON2: Anything that increases your reputation, such as killing criminals, giving painkillers to plague victims and completing certain quests is accompanied by the sound of laughing children. Anything that decreases your reputation will be accompanied by the sound of crying babies (and I'm not even making that part up).
