danko day 4 part 6 (12:57)

12:57 on Day 4

"I still have to examine the Cathedral, to see if it is suitable for a hospital. This time, I hope the keeper is actually ready to let me in, instead of sending me on some dangerous chase across town."

Young Woman: Dankovskiy! Tell me, what is happening?
Bachelor: By your yelling, it seems like the end of the world. I need to get inside the Cathedral. I also need you to gather as many people as you can do help me with some public work.
Young Woman: What should we do?
Bachelor: I will give you orders after I have examined this building.
Young Woman: The Cathedral was closed by Olgimskiy's people. Recently his armed servants came here and behaved as if this was a conquered country! No one dared to speak up to them. Not since Olgimskiy gave the order to kill everyone who tries to leave the Apiary. Who knows what he'll do next!
Bachelor: Why would he tell the townspeople about an order like that?
Young Woman: They have already killed some butchers who tried to escape. And they also say that a few managed to escape, but they are hiding somewhere secret. Olgimskiy announced a reward of two thousand for news that leads to their capture. Some are already caught.
Bachelor: Anyway, how do I get into the Cathedral?
Young Woman: My cousin has the keys. He went to the Veins recently. He had some affairs with Andrei Stamatin.
Bachelor: What did he have to discuss with that scoundrel?
Young Woman: I don't know... He didn't say anything to me about it. Please make sure he's all right. Have you arranged for medicine to be transported here already?
Bachelor: The earlier all these complications end, the faster you'll have your medicine. If you meet anyone who has at least some responsibility in this, tell them that.

"Sigh... Nothing ever goes right, does it? The location the woman pointed out is on the other side of town. If I ever want to get all my duties done before midnight, I will have to take care of some other things on my way there. I just hope this key holder isn't in trouble already."

"The Cathedral is right next to the Kain residence. Vlad told me I should talk to Victor about the previously infected part of town. If it was just Big Vlad claiming the area to be safe now I wouldn't have believed it, but I did get a letter from Victor Kain earlier..."

"I think this painting is of Nina Kain, Victor's late wife. It's strange, I think I've seen it in the Theater as well."

Victor Kain: Something strange happened today. It could be of interest to you. I won't conceal that it is extremely interesting to me. Most likely we can take advantage of the situation, if we make the right decisions. It's about the district called Tanners.
Bachelor: Is it connected with my search for uninfected buildings to use for hospitals and such?
Victor Kain: You catch on quickly! In the Tanners', everything has died out. It seems no infection can be found there anymore. Everything is clean - The streets, walls, things... even the dead. People can bravely touch the bodies that recently were a source of the strongest infection.
Bachelor: How would you be sure about that?
Victor Kain: This information comes from marauders who are plundering the houses there. There is a lot of property with no one around to rightfully claim it. I have already ordered the patrol guards to chase them away, but only you can certify the absence of infection in the houses.
Bachelor: Well, let the patrols handle them.
Victor Kain: If this information is true, then we shall prepare the empty houses so that people can live in them again. I expect that soon we'll have to take on refugees that lives near the still infected districts. You understand, I have to be completely confident about their safety to make such a risky decision...
Bachelor: What help can I give you?
Victor Kain: Study the conditions in the Tanners district. Examine the inside of the houses, if you can. If they really are clean, you might encounter some evidence as well. If you find something that is of use to yourself, you can take it. Let it be yours instead of the marauders!
Bachelor: This is interesting. I will return with news later today.

New Task: Locked district posted:

Victor said that my word was enough to him. However, I want to give him some evidence that I have examined the previously infected houses in detail. I think the equipment from a dead marauder will be a favorable certificate of my accuracy.

"The ordeal in the infected house has left me exhausted, and the heavy use of medicines aren't really helping me concentrate. I better stop by Eve's house and get some sleep before I continue. By the sound of it I'm likely to get into yet more trouble today and it's best to be able to face it with a clear head."

Eve Yahn: There is no more hope...
Bachelor: Is it true that you agreed to test some old antibiotics?
Eve Yahn: I wasn't allowed to. But it seems that Anna and Lara wanted you to help them. The hypocrites! Why would you volunteer for it if you aren't brave enough to risk your life?
Bachelor: You wanted to test the pills instead of me?
Eve Yahn: My God, yes! For you I would do anything.
Bachelor: You're not afraid?
Eve Yahn: Of course I am afraid... You know, there are people who say that this illness has a reason! It behaves like it's alive. Cunning and hidden, it watches and attacks the weak and defenseless but avoids the strong and courageous. Well, at least it does not dare to attack them right away. It's better to show courage.
Bachelor: How do you know that?
Eve Yahn: Haven't you noticed how few deaths there are among the patrolmen? Or those strange people who have taken masks and robes from the Theater? Those who hide perish! The disease can enter straight into their head, and arises in them from within...
Bachelor: Eve, you should calm down. You sound like a little girl.
Eve Yahn: Young Vlad found some simple-minded people to test the old medicines that Isidor used before he went into the infected houses during the last outbreak. Our maidens were charged with looking after the rest, and they said they'd do it all themselves! Can you imagine that?
Bachelor: Yes, but I stopped them from doing it.
Eve Yahn: Don't you see? They waited for you all along. Then they could make you test all the medicines yourself, instead of risking their own lives!
Bachelor: But there was nothing wrong with the medicines. I have already performed the tests.
Eve Yahn: I knew you would... Oh, how I wish you wouldn't put yourself in danger. Don't you see you are being used?

"This seems like as good a time as any to test out the painkillers. I very much doubt there will be any risk involved and I could probably pass on the actual testing to someone else. However, Lara did say it would be best to let them be used by someone who'd take risks and got injured doing their duties. Sadly, that fits quite well as a description of me."

I haven't really found a good list of the painkillers. I usually get a load of the most cheap ones and use a load. Drinking several bottles allows you to regain health very quickly as long as you got access to a bed.

"Alexander Saburov asked me to investigate Gryph and his gang of thieves. Last time I visited Gryph, he seemed to be quite amused by my actions. Let's hope he's still in that mood."

Griff: They are strangling us! Saburov, the bastard, told his patrolmen to smoke out our free people from the warehouses. We suffer for another man's sins!
Bachelor: Really?
Griff: It's not my good fellows that hide out in alleys and attack people with knives! We all gathered yesterday. I did my best to calm everyone down. I told everyone, those who wishes to live by the knife must leave our community. We do not want to soil our hands with blood. Braga "the Shaver" broke away. The bastard left and took some fellows with him!
Bachelor: Who is Braga?
Griff: He's a disgusting blood-sucker! He only has one pleasure, and that is to kill people. Nothing is sacred for him. And he took the other blood-thirsty bastards with him! Now Saburov has set his dogs on us because of them.
Bachelor: I see... But why don't you take care of the murderers yourself?
Griff: Their numbers increase every hour. All the scums who just care about themselves goes to Braga. It's horrible how many people they have cut! I will help you out with coins and bullets if you can help me out. You won't get in trouble for killing him. Even the butchers won't care about the blood of that bandit!
Bachelor: I'll handle them, but you better have that reward ready for when I return.
Griff: Ah, our benefactor! I'll have you to thank for my life, if you pull this off. Once you have done the deed, come back and there will be gratitude from me. Can I count on you?
Bachelor: Yes, you have my word.

Task Update: Robber's own posted:

Gryph has declared his innocence. Even if he plays the hypocrite, it's possible to use this inner conflicts in the thieves' community to our advantage. Braga's secret den can be found near the plants.

"I don't know if the townspeople would agree with me that this is a good thing, but Gryph seems to be mostly interested in stealing trinkets and jewelry."

"Wait, this is the building that Big Vlad is going to turn into a morgue! Didn't he even send out someone to examine it before he made that decision? Well, I guess I will take care of two problems at once."

I ready my gun and head into the bandit lair!

Summary: The key to the Cathedral is carried by a man somewhere in the infected districts in the east part of town. We will have to get it pretty soon, but there's no need to rush right now.

Victor wants us to enter a house in the Tanners' district, and see if it's safe. We can expect the area to be... different.

Gryph is having trouble with radicals within his ranks, and it seems like he's not in control of what the thieves are doing. While we already knew that there are murderers lose, the idea that they are doing it out of blood thirst means it's likely to be very hard to handle them without violence. Make sure you watch the video!

Next time we will head into the northeast part of town to wrap up the rest of the tasks, and then we should be done with most of the important things for the day.
