The morning of the third day has come.
Infected in the past 24 hours: 38
Dead in the past 24 hours: 30
Missing in the past 24 hours: 14
Number of dead: 90
Number of infected: 53
Less than ten days remain.
The evening letter from the Authorities, Day two. posted:
We are planning to send you a train with sanitary equipment, medicine and specialists. According to our planning, it is bound to reach the town in four days.
The Inquisitor (which will most likely be either Mark Karminskiy or Petr Kroy) will soon leave the capital on another train. If the supply train arrives before the governmental Inquisitor, all the equipment and specialists will be at your disposal.
The commander of the supply expedition will be thoroughly instructed. We hope that by the time he arrives, you will have all the required information about the disease.
"The other one doesn't list a sender. It doesn't even have an envelope. Eve told me someone just pushed it under the door, but when she looked out the window she couldn't see anyone. To be honest, it's a bit creepy. Is someone in town really keeping track of things like that? Or did someone just write up some numbers and send it to me to discourage me? 53 infected, that would be a whole neighborhood! And what's this about 10 days remaining?"
"I need some time to think about this. I was asked to visit the Theater again tonight, so I'll take a walk there."
"I took the chance to visit the medicine store near Eve's house. The important stores are open at all times, which is very useful for me. The shopkeeper told me he had received some extra supplies from one of Saburovs officials, including a type of medicine that you generally need a prescription for. It's a type of antibiotic which is used to kill off microbes. Hopefully it can deal with this Sand Plague as well, if you get them to the victims quickly. You need to be careful with them because they cause damage to the liver if you take many of them."
"The price is lower than I would have expected. I was told that Saburov promised to reimburse the shopkeepers if they reduced the prices of basics goods. At least Saburov is using his new powers for something useful, at least so far. If the three ruling families had to argue about every detail I don't think anything would have been done by now."
Prices have dropped quite a bit. Unfortunately, this mean our spare revolver isn't worth as much, but it also mean all the cash we got during day 2 is worth a mint if we need to buy food or medicine.
I will keep a few antibiotics on me. They greatly reduce your Infection meter right away, and you probably need to take one every two days or so if you're careful, but they severely damage your Health. They always leave a tiny bit of Infection, but we can manage that. I think it's quite fitting that the amazing modern medicine the Bachelor is so proud off can actually kill you if you just rely blindly on it.
"Unfortunately, it seems like Saburov hasn't got the guard patrols set up. There are a great deal of robbers out tonight, and on my way to the Theater I was assaulted again. Thankfully, this time I was ready with my revolver, and could deal with the savage without any personal injuries."

"This robber also had those razor-knuckles. I should ask Saburov about that when I see him again. I also found a knife. It's much more sturdy than my worn down scalpel, so I took it as well."

Since I played the Haruspicus first, this is easily my favorite weapon. It's better in every way compared to the scalpel, and if you sneak up on someone or they are distracted by something else, you can do a two hand stab in the back of their head. If the knife is sharp, this can kill instantly. If it's not sharp, you'll have to be careful not to get hit by a very angry robber. Use each knife until you find a new and sharper one, then sell the old one.

I look around before entering the Theater. I hope I have shown that I am not a man to pick a fight with, but then again I do not know how many robbers there are out on the streets tonight.
We are just in time for the second part of the Pantomime.
Voice 1: The rulers had to admit, there's something fishy going on. The frightening finds convinced them. One of them even put an end to the feudal fights.
Voice 2: Not good. The Commandant will take advantage of his powers, and the rest won't forgive him. Up to now, everything has been going as usual.
Voice 1: Quarantine has been declared. From now on, the infected regions are to be barricaded, and no one is to leave the town until the situation is settled.
Voice 2: It won't be... They're clueless.
"That was certainly, ehm, interesting. Mark didn't have anything to say to me, and I was getting sleepy again. I opened the door to the Theater and stepped outside--"
| well hello there sir |
This shows the importance of saving often. There was a robber standing right outside the Theater. The robbers have an opening attack, where they throw a small dagger at you if they can't reach you with their standard knife. This is easy to dodge if you see it coming. I was staring at the loading screen at the time. You would probably think that since the robbers are the first enemies you meet, that they would also be easy.
Not so. That dagger hit us in the head and killed us before we even realized we were being attacked. It takes away a good bit over half your health, and since you never run around with full health in the middle of the night, have fun meeting a robber for the first time! I quick save often. It might feel a bit cheap, but it's required for you to keep your sanity. So time for some save loading!
P.S. You know what I liked to do with horror games when I was younger? No-save runs. I'd pay good money to see someone do a no-save Pathologic run.
"Stepping outside, I got this strange feeling of deja-vu. But the weird thing was that it felt like things didn't really sync up between my memory and what was really going on. I shivered, and wondered if this was how the Mistresses felt when they 'told the future'. It might be that Julia is right and that there is something in the air. Maybe I'm just tired. I kept expecting someone to jump out at me, but there wasn't anyone in sight. I made my way back to Eve's place, and to bed once again."
Summary: We can now buy pills that reduces out Infection meter (at the cost of Health). The prices have dropped in the stores, and new supplies are in. There are still robbers about, but hopefully we can expect some guards tomorrow.
There are a few things to look forward to. On Day 3 we will start to see quarantined areas. On day 6 the Supply train should arrive. On day 12 something important will happen according to that weird note we got.

Overall status: Day two went better than I expected. We have been infected, which is bad but more or less inevitable in the long run. It has not spread much yet, despite quite some time passing. We are doing great when it comes to weapons and medicine. We are in dire need of food, but with our heap of cash we can fix this during the day.
We might want to buy some protective clothing just in case, since we have a load of cash, but they are still very expensive. What do you all say about that?
