danko day 2 part 6 (16:18)

16:18 on Day 2

It is time to visit Alexander Saburov again and discuss our plans for the next few days.

VERSUS
Alexander Saburov: The Kains and Olgimskiys have already sent me express messages. No one will dare to put any obstacles in my way now. We are declaring a quarantine! We'll create operational headquarters designed to fight the epidemic. I am planning to give the leading roles in all this to the two of us. For me, the responsibility. To you, the justice. We must fight shoulder to shoulder. Do you agree?
Bachelor: It is my duty now.
Alexander: From now on, all the infected districts will be blocked. No one will leave the town, until the situation is resolved. You will be allowed to enter any part of the town, of course. No one can deny you now. You will also need to create some emergency instructions for the population. I advice you to be careful in how you write, but you have the authority to formulate it as you see fit.
Bachelor: How are you planning to block the districts?
Alexander: I will recruit some volunteers into the patrol guard. We will pick some people of proved worth and good reputation. I will grant them broader powers. They will stop any occurrence of rape or pillage, and they will also stop anyone who is carrying arms without my expressed permission.
Bachelor: Arms? How would you find a gun in this town?
Alexander: I can issue you a revolver. Unfortunately we are very short on guns already. It's rare to find a weapon in this town. Perhaps there are some on the black market, or there are some citizens who have some home-made or old weapons stored somewhere. I am sure they will not hesitate to bring them out in this situation.
Bachelor: I have no idea how you are planning to stop a riot without any weapons.
Alexander: Leave that up to us. You should do what you think is needed. I only ask two things of you. First, even though others in this town may be suffering a lot, you must keep your own well being in mind. Make sure you stay healthy and well rested. I am afraid many will try to use this opportunity to try to exploit you. Secondly, spare as many human lives as possible.
Bachelor: Thank you for the advice, but I fear that in the current situations I will not have much of a choise in that matter.

"Surely a full quarantine of the entire town is a bit too much for a disease? I will need to ensure that Eve can leave tonight, before it is too late."

"I received a revolver from Alexander. While it is in rather poor shape, it should still prove to be very valuable if I can find a good place to sell it. I do not think this is what Alexander intended when he gave it to me, but he was right when he said that food and medicine will be vital to me."

If you missed the revolver during day one, this is where you'll probably get your first one. There's no real reason to turn it down, and there's no repercussion later if you sell it. The low durability (it's at 30% when you get it) will affect the accuracy of it, and lower the price a bit, but you can actually sell even 0% weapons for a decent chunk of cash.

Day Quest Completed posted:

The ruling families have temporarily ceased the struggle for power. By tradition, the family head of the Saburovs becomes the commandant with wide executive powers. A state of emergency is being implemented. The town will be closed off as a quarantine measure. I am expected to help plan further actions tomorrow.

"I have completed my main duty for today. Now all that remains is to convince Petr that his only chance to leave this town is to leave tonight, before the town is completely cut off. I cannot leave now myself, but I wish Eve, Petr and Andrei to be safe. They do not have the knowledge or authority to deal with what is going on."

"I will talk to Maria Kain and ask her for advice on how to deal with Petr. I just need to be careful not to mention anything about our plans."

"On my way to Maria Kain, I met a little girl who had thirteen a box of that strange powder. I had to offer her quite a lot of the nuts I have, but she finally accepted the trade. Nuts can't possibly harm her and are of no real use for me. I should ask around for nuts anytime I'm in a food store."

VERSUS
Maria Kain: Is there something wrong?
Bachelor: Maria, tell me, do you have any influence on Petr Stamatin?
Maria: I'd say he has a greater influence on me.
Bachelor: Why so?
Maria: You are asking very indiscreet questions. You've only known me for one day, Daniel. I've known you for a little longer... Maybe in time I will be able to satisfy your curiosity. Allow me to torture you with obscurity for now. I can only tell you that Petr is a genius.
Bachelor: Really? It seems like a lot of people hate him.
Maria: For what?
Bachelor: For his way of thinking. what else do people hate each other for?
Maria: People hate geniuses just as much as they need them. Some are indeed prepared to kill Petr. All the others are probably just feeling pity, when they see him drowning his talent in twyrine.
Bachelor: I understand.
Maria: Why did you ask about Petr?
Bachelor: I got acquainted with him recently. I know his brother from my university days in the capital.
Maria: You know, Saburov hates Petr. He has some private reckonings with him. I feel I should protect him, because as soon as Saburov seizes the power he is vainly trying to obtain, Petr will be the first he'll send to the bone pillar.

Task Update: Let's run from here! posted:

It seems Saburov is very motivated not only to get his hands on unlimited powers over the town, but also to use them to the fullest. Will Saburov take this chance to settle his personal conflicts as well? I think I should puzzle Petr with this question.

[SHOPS]

"I decided to stop by the nearby clothing shop first to sell off the revolver and some things I had traded for earlier today. The shopkeeper seemed as willing as me to keep this trade secret. I told him not to show it off in public, because that would most likely get him in trouble with Saburov's guards. In any other situation I would be considered quite wealthy, but right now I will probably need all this cash just to keep myself alive."

[literally impossible to find a random area of this game that looks "quite pleasant" sorry]

Just north of the shop is a strange park of some sort. On the outside, it looks just like the cemetery, but inside it was quite pleasant. Maybe a bit melancholy, but there aren't any people around and it's very quiet here.

[walk walk walk]

I couldn't stay for very long, though. It's quite a long walk to Petr's place, but nothing eventful happened on the way.

At least Petr's apartment is quite interesting to visit. All these drawings... I wonder what they are for? It seems to be just random lines but they are all quite detailed. Maybe Petr can make some sense out of all this, but I can't.
VERSUS
Petr Stamatin: I keep getting the feeling that someone is scratching at the window.
Bachelor: Well, have you changed your mind?
Petr: Nope.
Bachelor: I have some news for you. This evening Alexander Saburov will obtain the power of a commandant. Olgimskiy and Kain will give him nearly unrestricted powers to fight the epidemic, which you refuse to believe in.
Petr: Damn it... Are you sure about this?
Bachelor: I am.
Petr: What of George? What did he say about this? Will Saburov be the Judge now?
Bachelor: I don't think he'll gain the title, but he'll have the right to execute anyone who he thinks is guilty of interfering with him in fighting the plague.
Petr: That it, I'm dead. Why did it have to happen now? Just when I'm about to create a new masterpiece... Okay, I will leave this town.
Bachelor: I'll tell Andrei that you've agreed.

Task Update: Let's run from here! posted:

Petr agrees to flee with us. It is time to inform Andrei that he needs to condense his gaseous brother from the wine vapors. We have very little time left.

I just had to leave that in. A more normal translation would be to 'sober up' but this is Pathologic for you.

[hell yeah factus est]
VERSUS
Andrei Stamatin: Sit down! Don't be so tense.
Bachelor: Your brother has agreed.
Andrei: Well, we're good to go then. We don't need anything in this shithole. I might need some firearms though. You don't happen to have an extra revolver, do you?
Bachelor: Nope.
Andrei: Right. Let's divide the preparations between us. Here's some money. Some freak named Griff runs the black market around here... Do you know him?
Bachelor: No, I haven't met him.
Andrei: He has a hideout in the northern warehouses.
Bachelor: What of it?
Andrei: You can always buy something from him, if you need to kill someone. So... Well, he'll obviously ask a high price for it, but you only need to say to him "Andrei is off to the kennel" and he'll lower the price for you.
Bachelor: Okay, and after that?
Andrei: After that, come back, and we'll think of a way to deal with the train driver. He's one of the barbarians. Made of earth and bones, glued together with sticky blood and with a soul made from thick twyrine. Just like all their steppe kind. I'd break his neck, but the train won't leave without him... Don't worry, I can deal with him.
Bachelor: That's fortunate.

Task Update: Let's run from here! posted:

For this dangerous journey, we will need to find a fire-arm for Andrei. We can get one along with ammunition from Griff, the local thief leader.

Summary: It's a good thing we are buddies with Alexander Saburov, because he is now in command of locking down the infected houses and any nearby districts. He plans to close the whole town tomorrow.

We have found a way to convince Petr that he must leave town now if he wants to live. It seems like Alexander is after him, for some unknown reason. It's not hard to come up with a way to get Petr executed, if you have power of a Judge.

Andrei wants us to get a spare firearm, so we will visit the leader of the local criminals next and use a code-phrase to get one.
