danko day 2 part 5 (13:12)

13:12 on Day 2

Main Quest Update posted:

What kind of house was that? What was that reddish mud covering Isidors bedroom? And those women were in such pain. Do the governors need other evidence than this? The key to this Silent House, a horrible trophy, should be brought to Alexander Saburov.

"I finally managed to get out of that crazy place. Even though it sounds cruel, I have locked the door behind me. Those women were clawing at me as I tried to run past them! If that's what the Sand Plague will do to people, it's no wonder Rubin was so scared when I mentioned that name to him earlier."

"I've never seen anything like this, nor heard of it during my education. I think it was a bad idea to breath the air in there. I need to hurry and tell Alexander of what I've found."

Unfortunately, the Bachelor is now infected. At this point it's nothing too serious, since we only had brief contact with someone without any visible symptoms.

We have an Infection meter, and it's now at about 5% or so. You get a chunk of Infection anytime you get touched by another victim (later on there will be other ways to get infected). How much you get depends on your Immunity, so if you're prepared you can get past situations like this without any significant danger.

However, any time your Infection meter gets a hit, a large chunk of your Immunity meter is also taken away. This mean that if you stay in an infected place your Immunity will eventually become low enough that you will be in serious danger from even just a touch from someone who is infected.

If you are infected, the infection will grow over time. How fast it grows depends on how much you already have in you. At this point we don't really have to worry because it will probably take a few days until it starts to have any significant effect on our health, but we will have to find ways to handle this later on.

Hi there Alexander, I'm infectious!
VERSUS
Alexander Saburov: I am listening, Bachelor.
Bachelor: I've found the proof, Alexander. Here is the key to Isidor's house. It is infected with the Sand Plague, and there are people inside dying of pain. Anyone who needs to be convinced can look inside. Is this enough?
Alexander: I've already been told of your brilliant success. The news arrives here faster than you. Now, I want you to personally visit Olgimskiy and Kain and tell them about your find. After that we can consider your mission a success.
Bachelor: I will do that.

Main Quest Update posted:

My hypothesis has proved to be true. The information I pressed out of Young Vlad turned out to be correct, and there really is an infection disease in town. The town is threatened with a epidemic. I need to announce this to the heads of the ruling families, George Kain and Vlad Olgimskiy.

The house of Big Vlad is closest, so I decided to go there first. On the way I noticed a poster for the theater. I'm not sure if it's a joke, but I can't see how that would attract any viewers, especially considering the current situation.

[creepy poster.]

[vlad's pimp house, bed, chess board maybe??]

"Big Vlad certainly doesn't spare any expenses on making his residence look impressive! Even though Kapella told me his wife (Kapella's mother) is no longer alive he still keeps a large double-bed in his bedroom. There's a chess board next to it, but Vlad doesn't seem the type to have the patience for actually playing it."

Big Vlad: See what you have done, doctor! The trains are forbidden to leave, and now you won't be able to leave this place. The town is closed, and it's all because of you. I've given my powers over to Saburov. He made haste to thank me and then assigned me the position of... quartermaster. Now I am responsible for the equipment of the infirmaries.
Bachelor: I'm sure the train isn't the only way of communicating with the rest of the country.
Big Vlad: It is the only way. The Station is closed, but it will open when the regular train with goods arrives. We can't keep it closed forever. Then we'll discuss how to get transport out of here as well.
Bachelor: When is the train scheduled to arrive?
Big Vlad: Any day... In fact, it was supposed to arrive here some time ago. I'm surprised it still isn't here. The government should realise how dependent we are on their deliveries. This is why the townspeople are desperately buying anything they can.
Bachelor: Then you should make sure to protect your own stock, dear quartermaster.

Main Quest Update posted:

The elder Olgimskiy has agreed to pass on his powers to the head of the house of Saburov.

Time to visit George Kain. If Vlad is willing to go this far, I do not think George will make much of a fuss about this. Though, I doubt either of them are very happy about this.

VERSUS
George Kain: Forgive this old man... I've lead you along the wrong way. I thought your ignorance would have a magical effect on the circumstances and that it would never come to this. You haven't brought any unexpected good news for us, have you?
Bachelor: No. The disease is real, and there is a risk of it spreading around the town. It is necessary to appoint some responsibilities so that we can handle this problem. Get all the doctors and hospital attendants ready.
George Kain: Saburov demanded emergency powers from us. Let him be in charge. I've already sent all my men and some money to help him. We don't have any doctors here. The only man that knows enough about medicine is currently examining my brother's body. It's strange that there hasn't been any news from him yet.
Bachelor: What are you going to do?
George Kain: We will fight till the very end. I will personally deal with those who claim this is some sort of inevitable retribution, and everyone who says that Simon got what he deserved. No one will dare say that what he built up with such inhuman efforts can be destroyed so easily.
Bachelor: Retribution for what?
George Kain: Simon challenged the very laws of nature and some claim there is a price for that. However, we don't want to believe that, do we? Such conclusions are drawn by tired, cynical people who think their exhaustion is their wisdom. Although, an echo can sometime be the cause instead of the effect, so if they keep saying we are doomed, then we will be.
Bachelor: And what now, Judge?
George Kain: We are similar, you and I. I am grateful for everything you've done, and the risk you had to take to help us, and for the sorrowful conclusion you came to. You can count on our family, no matter what decision you make. The promised rewards awaits you. Victor will make the corresponding arrangements.
Bachelor: I won't leave you on your own in this battle. We have a common foe and we will fight him together.

Main Quest Update posted:

George Kain has agreed to pass his powers to Alexander Saburov.

The consent is, at last, achieved. We shall hope that it's no too late. I should go back to Alexander. I still have to show him the message I recieved from the Authorities, and discuss with him my future duties. I am bound by the word of honor. The form of my enemy does not change the meaning of our battle.

"On the way back, I stopped by Lara Ravelle's house. Since I have the rations for her, I can deliver them right away."

[Lara & pals. architecture. you know the deal.]
VERSUS
Lara Ravelle: What will become of us?
Bachelor: Here is what you asked for.
Lara: Is this all you managed to buy?
Bachelor: Yes.
Lara: You need to bring it over to the empty house in the Saddle. I will show you where it is. My friends and a quartermaster are already waiting there. He helped me with some purchases as well.
Bachelor: I'll be back soon.

Task Update: House of the Living posted:

The prices have gone up something incredible. I still managed to get all the supplies needed. I need to carry them to the house set up as a refuge. They are waiting for them there impatiently.

"It's a bit out of the way, but I don't know how long my discussions with Alexander will take. I better go there right away."

[sup house of the living looking pretty nice and spiffy right no--]

"It seems like an ordinary house to me. No one answered when I knocked, by the door wasn't locked so I entered."

VERSUS
Executor: You see, they've all died here. Can't understand why. Probably the echoes of yesterday's vengeance. We are confused as well.
Bachelor: This is horrible! What am I supposed to do with all this food now?
Executor: The dead have no use for it. Bring all your sacrifices to Lara. It was she that asked you to find some food, and it was she who wanted to call her shelter the "House of the Living". Isn't that so? Why doesn't she just let the sick into her own home?
Bachelor: She'd never survive if she did what you suggested.
Executor: She won't survive anyway. Lara has only a few days of her life ahead of her. You should tell her to make the most out of them.
Bachelor: What? She'll die? How?
Executor: How should we know? We are not in charge here. We know only one thing, there's no long left. Nothing depends on us here.
Bachelor: Then who does it depend on?
Executor: Soon that will be absolutely obvious. Hurry, or poor Lara will die of starvation today!

Task Update: House of the Living posted:

The House of the Living failed, before it even started. The house is already infected, and the people who waited there cannot be saved. I should get the food supplies back to the house of Lara Ravel and tell her of the bad news.

"This is awful! Yet another infected house, and more dead people! I need to get out of here!"

[sweet merciful g-- haha no but really, delicious clean air]

"The air outside is really clean, and I am glad I got out of that house. But this one didn't have any boils on the outside. How did it get infected? Did Lara invite someone who was already sick? If that is the case, then anyone in town could have been infected by now without knowing it!"

"The first stage of the Sand Dirt seems to be rather hard to detect. Isidor managed to get all the way from the steppe and spent quite some time in town without anyone noticing anything physically unusual about him. I think Olgimskiy talked to him through a window, but didn't let him inside his home. Simon invited him in, so it must be that you can still spread the disease to others if you are in close contact with them for a long time, even if there are no symptoms yet."

"How long does it take for it to develop? Isidor died during the night, and all of Lara's friends are either dead or too far gone to be saved. Let's hope that it takes an unusually high dose for the disease to develop this fast, otherwise we will not have time to find a cure for it fast enough to save the town."
lara i got bad news :(
VERSUS
ROUND TWO
Lara Ravelle: Are you back already?
Bachelor: I visited the house. However, there is no one left alive but some strange cleaner with a theater mask and strange robes to protect against infection. The disease has broken out in the house. That's how I understood it, anyway.
Lara: This can't be! We will have to make the House of the Living here instead. Know that the doors of my house are always open for you. We'll have to save the food and give it out in small portions. It will be enough to survive for a little while, at least. If only this would end soon.
Bachelor: So I will always be able to find a bed at your house?
Lara: Yes. Take this as a reward too. Nuts. We found some in the shops today. It's great luck, really! They probably found some stored away somewhere secret. Do you know how to use them?
Bachelor: I know how to eat nuts, yes.
Lara: No, you shouldn't eat them! Barter them. The children would give anything for these nuts. Keep that in mind, especially if you meet a child that is carrying something that is dangerous to them.
Bachelor: Why would they price nuts so highly?
Lara: It's an old game. A child takes the nut and goes on an adventure with it. Some time ago, the adults took all the nuts away from the kids. They thought the game could provoke them to do something dangerous. But the children still remembers the story of almost every nut in town.
Bachelor: Perhaps they have names too?
Lara: I think so. Well, anyway, these could become a treasure.
Bachelor: Thank you. I'll come by to see you soon.

"Poor Lara. If she'd lived anywhere else but in this twisted town, I'd consider her mad with grief. But I know the kids likes to play around with sharp tools and dangerous medicine. Maybe these nuts will prove to be useful. It's just a shame I can't seem to bring Lara any good news no matter what I try to do."

"She also gave us something else. She said it was a lens with some strange properties, that Isidor and Simon had made during the first outbreak. She didn't know how it was supposed to work, so I put it aside for now."

[inventory here maybe?]

Task Completed: House of the Living posted:

Lara will arrange a new shelter in her own private residence. I will be able to go there if I ever need a safe place to rest.

This is another way to find proof of the disease, if you did not visit Isidor's house. There's no actual way to save anyone inside the shelter, so even though things turned out really badly, this is the way you complete the task.

Summary: We now have undeniable evidence of the Sand Plague. All the ruling families have agreed to let Alexander Saburov take charge.

The plan to set up a shelter where Lara Ravel and some of her friends could weather the plague has failed. The house is already infected. Those who are still alive will gather at Lara's house instead. It's probable that Lara will try to give away her share of the food as well, so we'll need to keep an eye on her.

Next time we'll go back to Alexander and discuss our duties and privileges will be until the plague is defeated.

(Yes, I was stupid enough not to visit Victor for the reward. I've played all of day 2 in advance and I didn't quite realize I missed it until well past midnight. Well, you get some cash if you talk to him. I don't want to replay a large chunk of day 2 just for that. I can live without that. I hope.)
