If you are touched by anyone who is infected or otherwise get a dose of
the Sand Plague, your Infected meter will go up. How much it goes up
depends on how high your Immunity meter is.
If you are prepared and boosted your Immunity beforehand, getting
touched by someone who's infected once will not have much effect. You'll
get just a tiny sliver of Infection. However, this will also lower your
Immunity by quite a bit. If you then get touched again you take a
bigger Infection hit and your Immunity drops even more. That's why it
was almost empty at the end of the video. Hanging around such a place
with an empty Immunity bar is asking for trouble.
It is possible to get out the door without getting infected at this
point, but I got stuck and kinda panicked. So now the Bachelor is
infected. Not much, just a tiny tiny bit. When I did my screenshots and
saved properly, I got infected a lot less, but I still think this is a
good time to show off the Immunity/Infection-system.
However, and this is the fun part... Once you are infected, no matter
how little, the Sand Plague will grow inside you. It's very slow at the
start, but the more you have inside your body, the quicker it will grow.
If you are infected just a little bit, you won't really notice it.
You'll get a headache at some points, and slightly blurred vision when
you wake up from sleeping. The infection is not enough to harm you, and
you don't need to worry about taking medication yet.
If you let the plague grow for a while, or get into a situation where
you get a large dose of it, you will start to gradually lose health. The
plague will also spread a bit faster inside your body. At this point
you will probably feel like shit, but you can still use powerful
antibiotics to reduce your infection quite a bit. This will have a
serious impact on your health but it's better than dying. However, no
known medicine can fully cure you, so you are essentially just buying
time.
If your infection meter ever reaches full, the plague has spread so much
that it is affecting your brain and causes you to go insane from the
pain. If Daniel ever reaches this point, we get a game over.
You are not actually contagious until you reach 'stage 2' of your
infection. For us, that means getting to 100% infection, which makes us
lose the game. Daniel has access to lots of medicine and knows how to
avoid infection (he has a degree!) and still have to be very careful.
For a random factory worker, it will probably only take a day or so once
you got a big dose of the disease.
When you die, a short scene plays out in the Theater where Daniel is
lying dead on the stage and the camera goes all crazy about it. Then you
just get kicked back to the main screen. Unfortunately it's the same
screen no matter how you die.
GOON: Do we get a cool little shot of him going batshit beforehand?
GOON 2: We get a game over quickly. The Bachelor dies a horribly
slow death, probably involving his blood being forced through his skin.
We just don't get to see it.
