danko day 8 part 4 (13:22)

13:22 on Day 8

Short recap: We have to investigate the well that Young Vlad dug, and ensure that he didn't find something unsanitary there. But before that, we should check in with Kapella and see if we can get some more information about the Tower.

The medical shops had a few supplies in store, but most of it was a bit too costly for my liking. I only bought what I need for the next day or so. Hopefully I can get something better when the army train arrives.

: You are still here? I was sure you would take the chance to leave this town.

Bachelor: I was told that you know the secrets of what's going on inside the Polyhedron?

Kapella: Who says so?

Bachelor: The kids living inside it.

Kapella: I don't think they explained things very well to you, then. There's nothing secret about it. You just have to accept what is obviously in front of your eyes. The things happening in the tower are not just fantasies. I take it you are worried about the illness getting in? Don't worry about that. It's impossible to force your way inside.

Bachelor: What sort of fantasies are you talking about? I've heard all sorts of strange tales about it.

Kapella: The tower is connected with your inner thoughts. Because of that, all those amazing but fleeting things... Dreams, love, obsessions or games of imagination... They will remain just the way you want them, for ever.

Bachelor: Surely you are kidding? I thought you'd be more skeptical toward all this.

Kapella: It is for this reason that I am so fond of children. All their wonderful games, magical countries and adventures to other world, all these charms of their childhood is concentrated inside the Tower. And you can return to them. To a favorite dream or idea. And most importantly, you can bring others too! And they see your dream from your point of view. They can feel the way you felt.

Bachelor: That must be something amazing...

Kapella: Yes. But sadly, it is impossible to seize a miracle like this by force and to hold on to it with your hands. Only through the power of the human mind can a miracle like this truly happen. My mother knew how to do it...

Bachelor: And how does the Tower do it? Something to do with it's geometry?

Kapella: The Stamatin brothers brag that they have overcome the laws of terrestrial gravity and Euclidean geometry. But the Kains managed to actually overcome the laws of magic and wonder. While the brothers were building their stairways to heaven, the Kains built the inner chamber.

Bachelor: You sound like you're worried about what they have done. Why?

Kapella: I don't know... I have a feeling they are doing something forbidden. The more I think about it, the worse that feeling gets. It is as if they have not paid in full for their powers yet. The Tower holds it's miracles in capture. Some of the more cautious and wise children have left the tower because of this.

Bachelor: Wise? They are just children. Who'd leave such a place?

Kapella: Well, Taya Tychik, for example. She is just five years old but already idolized by the Order. They call her Mother Keeper. While in the Tower she was carefree, but she has changed since then and now she rules over the Apiary. Have you met her already? I'm worried about it.

Bachelor: I have some business there today.

Kapella: If you have the time, please give her this medicine and tell her that she should take a few tablets if she ever gets sick. You must say that they come from me, otherwise she will never take them.

Bachelor: Give them to me and I will give them to her. It's good of you to care for the kids around here. Most adults just ignore them.

The Order keeps a five year old girl as their leader? No wonder the Apiary is such a mess! She probably wasn't able to do much against the riots last week. Well, if Kapella wants me to help her then I can't really refuse. I wonder where she got these pills from, though.

I find it rather hard to keep track of the different types of antibiotics, but then again there's not that much difference in effect. That's one downside for the Bachelor. He has to pretty much try out everything himself to find out what it does.

: Hello again. Don't you get tired of running around all day?

Bachelor: So, you've finished with your work now?

Young Vlad: Not quite so. This morning was just the start. There is something else I have to do now.

Bachelor: So what's going on this time? I thought you said you would stop all this nonsense? We have better things to do.

Young Vlad: So what do you want from me?

Bachelor: I want your cooperation.

Young Vlad: I already have an ally. Artemiy Burakh acts in the interests of our family. You should go ask your Inquisitor for help. You seem to have her favor, for some reason.

Bachelor: Why do you think I have an easy time commanding her? Why wouldn't just Burakh get help from the Inquisitor? Since he developed a panacea, surely he can ask anything?

Young Vlad: No. Even though it was not intentional, Burakh has crossed her path. If things continue like they do now, then Burakh will be a death sentence to Aglaja. At least as long as you do not interfere.

Bachelor: What? Is that why you have filled up the well? To hide something from me?

Young Vlad: I don't have to answer that question. You don't have any support from the Authorities anymore. You and Aglaja are on your own.

Bachelor: Then our friendship will come to an end today. You've dug out some rubbish filled with bacteria and let it spread, and now you are covering up the traces of your crime.

Young Vlad: Calm down. I appreciate your friendship, doctor Dankovskiy. You are not as far from the truth as I would like. But I am not hiding anything. I simply don't need the well anymore, so I filled it up.

Bachelor: Then tell me what you searched for under the ground.

Young Vlad: I can't help you, doctor. As much as I'd like, I do not really trust enough. If I tell you it will not help you in the least, but it could spell disaster for me. You'll turn my words into fallacies and the consequences could be very tragic. Saburov would spoil everything out of spite.

Hmm, who could help me figure out what was in the well? Is there someone who doesn't like him that I can ask?

Well, there's Ospina. She is a bit crazy but she might have learned something from Burakh or someone else with ties to the Order. It won't hurt to ask.

: What a bitch! Who would have ever expected that?

Bachelor: Ospina, do you know what it was that Young Vlad dug out?

Ospina: So, he didn't have the guts to tell you? He thinks that he's so clever, and he thinks that he'll get out of this well of his with clean hands and a clean name. But there is a way to loosen his tongue.

Bachelor: What?

Ospina: Make an announcement to all the fair people of this town that he has thousands of deaths on his hands. I was naive enough to think it was his father's fault, but I was so wrong.

Bachelor: What are you talking about?

Ospina: He was the one that ordered the closing of the Apiary. He has hidden the truth from his father, and justified his urgent actions with words about unrest among the workers. He knew how to get his father all riled up, and the old man was so angry he started cursing all the poor people locked inside instead of looking for the real reason.

Bachelor: Wait, are you saying he knew about the Sand Dirt from the very beginning? Before he closed down the Apiary?

Ospina: Exactly.

Bachelor: His informants are much more effective than I expected.

Ospina: Of course! Look, he is a faithful son. He wouldn't want to drag his father into this. The Order is furious and when they find out all the details they will not have any mercy on whoever they think is responsible. But the Olgimskiy family will stay very quiet. I would have taken advantage of this, but the Devotress has thought up a better plan.

Bachelor: Thank you, Ospina. This explains a lot.

Summary: We have found a way to force some information out of Young Vlad. If we return to him and threaten to reveal all this he might be willing to talk.

After that we'll pay a visit to the Apiary again, and check up on both Burakh and this young girl called Mother Keeper that lives somewhere in there.
