danko day 12 part 1 (01:13)

 01:13 on Day 12

There aren't any robbers out tonight, for once.
"I hope Artemiy is awake at this hour. I don't think I've ever seen the man asleep all these weeks. But on the other hand I haven't seen much of him at all. His letter said he was hiding somewhere near the old factories."

Nobody here, either.
What's the purpose of that checkerboard pattern?

"This place is like it's own miniature town. And not a single soul around. It's a bit creepy, looking at these hulking beasts of bricks and metal."

Ahah!
Artemiy was hiding in an unmarked building and I had to run around for a good five minutes before finding the right door. It doesn't help that everything in this part of town is a dull gray.

It'd be real nice if you told me where you got the ingredients to that, by the way.
Haruspex: I hope that you are happier than me, doctor. Have you made your final decision yet?
Bachelor: Not yet, I am still uncertain. What about you?
Haruspex: I am in doubt, doctor. All this time I have been walking two paths, hoping that they would eventually merge together into one. But they remain divided. I have a solution for this whole town, one that would not risk a single life. I could show you how and bring forth the evidence, if only I had more time. But I do not. It is too late.
Bachelor: Explain yourself. How would you save the town?
Haruspex: I would destroy the Polyhedron. It holds a big secret, and with it gone we would be able to manufacture huge amounts of this Panacea. Certainly enough for the whole town, maybe more. I cannot say if it would be enough for everyone out on the Steppes, but I hope so.
Bachelor: So you would destroy the tower. That is your sacrifice. But what then? You'd leave a broken town behind, and what if not everyone can be cured? Who would want to take charge of rebuilding the town after all this?
Haruspex: I would shoulder that burden, and then pass it on to the next generation of rulers. Kapella makes for a fine foster mother, and will raise them. Then, if this disease ever breaks out again, we will have enough Panacea to strangle it before it takes hold.
Bachelor: Next generation? You want to lead with the help of a bunch of kids?
Haruspex: Yes. Kapella has already marked them, and she is never mistaken. But I am already responsible for their lives, and I do not have enough time to both keep them safe and provide the council with all the evidence needed. The council will take a lot of effort to convince. The Impostress has been acting against me, and I am not certain all my adherents will survive this day without my help.
Bachelor: I might have time to help them. I can't just let children die due to a town meeting!
Haruspex: Really? Then I could show the general my plans and explain my reasoning.
Bachelor: What do I have to do?
Haruspex: If you can ensure that all my charges will live, I will appear when the council starts. I must prepare everything. Are you going to help me?
Bachelor: I will do my best. Do you have any more of your miracle cure?
Haruspex: No, doctor. That is why I worry so much. I do not have more Panacea to use. I need to keep the ingredients of one last bottle if I am to convince the council that more can be made. You will have to sacrifice some of your own, I am afraid.

Let's see, I have the letter from Klara here somewhere...

Warning from the Impostress posted:

Your most dangerous enemy is the one standing behind your back. Turn back and look now, before it is too late! She came under a mask and she played on your love for the truth! Instead she has abused you, and made you her instrument in her game of lies. If you want explanations, you will find me with the general. It appears that it is very easy to outplay you. I had higher thoughts of you!

"She sure knows how to get people upset. She's just a kid, and still she talks like she owns this town. Well, better see what she wants before she takes matters into her own hands and get someone hurt. I've seen her spend a lot of time in the City Hall lately, I should look for her there first."

Hmm, no sight of Klara. But the General seems very exited over something.

Ignore the fact that he looks taller than usual.
General Block: So, today is the end! At ten this evening we will move the artillery into position. Just before midnight we will open fire. It will be up to you to determine where the shells should fall. Do not be late to the council!
Bachelor: What happens if you miss with that thing?
General Block: At this distance we will hit our target, don't worry.
Bachelor: Then wait for me in the Cathedral when it's time for the council.
General Block: Take my advice. Beware of the Inquisitor. I know you are a respected doctor, but if I were in your place I would not risk playing her game.
Bachelor: I'll take that into account... By the way, have you seen Klara tonight? She wanted to speak to me but didn't say where she would be.
General Block: Last I heard of her, she said she was going to stay at the Apiary. She looked like she was in a hurry to get there, too.

And I was just at the Apiary not a quarter of an hour ago!

I asked the guards and the few people inside who were still able to talk, but no one knew where Klara was hiding. I don't want to spend all night playing hide and seek with that silly girl.

Wait, I never noticed that door before...

Pathologic likes to play tricks like this on you. This is the only time the Bachelor needs to go into this small extra part of the Apiary. I think it's empty all the other days. Have fun finding this on your own!

: Now do you see how it all turned out? Who could have imagined something like this... No matter what you decide, you will have to make a sacrifice. Will you bring down the tower, despite it's wondrous nature, or will you turn those guns on something even more precious?

Bachelor: So you think you have a better way, then?
Klara: I could turn it all back, to how it was before... If I could stand up to the Inquisitor and stare her in the eyes. If I could challenge here there, in front of the council. But I cannot run off on my own. I have too many people depending on me, and they have faith in me.
Bachelor: You too? Then tell me, what help do you need of me today?
Klara: You will know my Adherents easily... The persecuted, outcasts, villains and criminals. Those who do not have a shelter, except for me. If you can help them, I will be able to attend the council.
Bachelor: I will be on the lookout for them, if I can. You're not the only one asking for favors today.

Summary: We got a full list of all the Adherents (I'll post it in a later update), and eventually we will go around and check up all of them to see if any of them are in need of medical aid.

Both Artemiy and Klara seems to have screwed up rather badly so we will have to be the ones to save their sick Adherents. That won't really reflect well on their cases when it's time for the council at 19.
