danko day 3 part 3 (09:31)

09:31 on Day 3

Even if Victor Kain seems to have accepted that the Apiary is safe, I still think it would be a good idea to get a close look at this so called Polyhedron tower. It should be nearby.

[hedron]

There's just as much dust in the air as before, but according to the map it should be this way. I can see something faint in the distance. Some sort of bridge?

[poly]

There's a stone walkway up ahead, but it doesn't have any guard rails. It would be very dangerous to let the kids play out here. I better keep my eyes on the ground so that I do not slip. I can see some stairs up ahead.

[hedron]

I wonder where they would... lead...

[poly]

This can't be real! It's just not possible!

[hedron]

No wonder Petr is drinking so much twyrine if this is what is going on inside his head.

[poly]

It's solid. Somehow it feels more solid than the earth below.

[hedron]

Taking one step at time, taking care not to think too hard about what I'm actually doing, I finally climb all the way up to the top.

[poly--]

Doghead: You cannot come in! You'll make the tower fall if you do.
Bachelor: I am a friend of the Kains. I need to speak to Khan.
Doghead: Well, this would be your chance, then. But you need to be careful. Khan is grieving over the loss of his grandfather. You can enter the meeting room, but don't try to go any further inside!
Bachelor: I don't see a d--

"As I took a step toward the center of the platform the whole world suddenly jumped and I was standing somewhere else. There wasn't any sense of movement but it took my mind a while to catch up."

"It's a completely enclosed chamber with no doors or windows. All the walls are covered with writing. On the floor were two drawings. The one I was standing on top of showed the stairs of the Polyhedron. The other one showed something like a box. Maybe it leads further in?

[hedron]

"This must be what the Kains meant by the Inner Chamber. A place which breaks the laws of physics, away from the rest of the world. Surely a place like this would be impossible to break into.

Or maybe I'm still in bed, having a bad dream."

[poly]

Kaspar "Khan" Kain: Adults are not allowed in here. The tower could fall if any of you come here.
Bachelor: Your statement comes in conflict with common sense.
Khan: This tower doesn't abide by the laws of common sense. The laws here are different.
Bachelor: Who are you?
Khan: My name is Kaspar. I am the son of Victor and Nina. I am the youngest of the house of Kains. Now it's your turn to say your name.
Bachelor: Daniel Dankovskiy.
Khan: Are you a friend of my family?
Bachelor: I am.
Khan: You wished to speak with me. I am listening.
Bachelor: I need to examine this building.
Khan: No, that is impossible. We do not trust you adults. We can't allow the nasty things to come inside. For this reason we guard it with our lives. We can assure you that nothing is wrong with our tower.
Bachelor: Who do you guard the tower against?
Khan: From you. And your doubles. From everyone who comes from that side of the river.
Bachelor: What do you mean?
Khan: There are two others just like you. They claim to be saviors of mankind too. At least, they speak exactly the same words that you do. And still only evil comes from the other two.
Bachelor: What evil?
Khan: Our salvation is in calmness and in silence. Our town should be still now. To be still, just like someone who has disturbed a nest of poisonous snakes. Then the illness will be calm and burn down in it's own flame. I was told that these are your words. Is this true?
Bachelor: It's more like those were my thoughts. If we quarantine the plague, then the rest of the town should be safe and we can wait it out.

Task Update: Body of the Immortal posted:

The kid speaks like he's already an adult. His word makes an impression. Probably Olgimskiy is right. If the Apiary is protected from outside influences just as carefully as the Polyhedron, then they should both be safe.
"Again I felt this strange jump and I was outside. I slowly went back down. About halfway down I made the mistake to look down, and my stomach really didn't like that."

[escape from polyhedron land]

"It feels good to be on solid ground again. This town is insane, but it's insanity seems to make perfect sense to the people living here. I stared up into the rain for a few minutes before I could collect my thoughts. I need to hurry over to Young Vlad."

[begger dot jpeg?]

It seems that even in these parts of the town there are poor people. The increased food prices has made life very tough for many of them. I gave this man a bit of money.

You can improve your Reputation by helping these people. Reputation isn't an issue for the Bachelor. We start with it at 100%, and it only drops if you do make obviously bad choices during a task or if you kill random people.

Young Vlad: How can I help you?
Bachelor: I managed to settle everything. Victor will not insist on the inspection of the Apiary any more.
Young Vlad: I will hold my word. To honor the ashes of the worthy Simon. We are all united by the mutual sorrow. So, there is a Ripper, a killer, lose in the part of town known as the Knots. There may be more than one. I think they are skilled butchers because we have found dissected bodies.
Bachelor: Why would they dissect a human body?
Young Vlad: They use the corpses as a way of divination, so to speak. In these hard days they would like to know what the future expects of them.
Bachelor: Where can I find them?
Young Vlad: One of my men, an inquisitive young man, tracked their route. It seems like they were carrying a body to the Rib district. I shall mark this house on your map. But I warn you, they are most likely going to kill you if you get too close.
Bachelor: So how shall I handle them?
Young Vlad: They are outcasts, criminals. Stealing bodies is a serious crime, even if they are butchers. Search the house and kill the butchers if you encounter them.

Task Update: Body of the Immortal posted:

The escaped butchers may be hiding the stolen body of Simon Kain in the house that Young Vlad pointed out.

[travel!]

This is the house. I found the lock to the broken and I entered with caution.

[gross!]

What a smell! I hear the sound of buzzling flies and there's a stench of death in the air. There's no one on the ground floor, so I went upstairs.

[MY BACHELOR IS FIGHT]

There they are! As soon as they saw me, they attacked. They didn't even have any weapons, they just lunged at me with their fists. By the look of their eyes I could see that there was no use in trying to talk my way out of this. Why are the steppe people, the butchers and meat workers, so brutal?

"There is a body on the bed, with it's chest opened up. They seem to have been rather careful with the body, as if it was something fragile. The heart has been cut out, but there's surprisingly little blood.

I took a quick look at the face of the corpse. I have seen pictures of Simon Kain, and it looks like this isn't his body. I better go back to George Kain and see if there is another lead."

[sigh.]

Task Update: Body of the Immortal posted:

I have found the body, but it is not that of Simon Kain.

"As soon as I stepped outside, one of Young Vlad's messengers came up to me. He had a letter to me. It didn't have a sender listed and had instructions on it to be delivered straight to me without anyone else opening it."

Rubin's letter posted:

We need to discuss the plan of the forthcoming battle. As a former soldier I feel the need to tackle this problem face on. Everyone is getting ready for destruction, but I shall not surrender without a fight. We have different skills and different opportunities. Let us unite.

Our enemy is invisible and is everywhere. He is dissolved in those things we have to save from him. He may seem impossible to kill, but we know now how to find him. To destroy him we need to study him, and to do that we much first catch him. This is where we shall begin.

Maybe you have also come to that conclusion already? I write these obvious things to you to better understand them myself. My business is to save lives, and your business is to defeat the epidemic. But you also want to find the truth about it's origin. I was told how much this means to you. Help me study this enemy and I shall help you destroy him so that we can save everything that can still be saved.

Stakh Rubin.

P.S. I work in a secret room in the Warehouses, there is a map on the back of this letter.

Summary: After a few false starts, we now know where Rubin is. He has moved the body of Simon Kain to a secret working space in the warehouse district. It seems like he's prepared to go quite far in finding out exactly how the plague works and how to counter it. Maybe he is hiding because he feared the Kains, who wants the body unspoiled, wouldn't allow him to do what he feels is needed.

We have also climbed the Polyhedron, a twisted staircase with a set of enclosed chambers near the top. It was described as a tower, but the place is so freaked out it's hard to actually get a feel for it with just a name.

Next time we'll visit Rubin for some hot corpse defiling action!
