danko day 6 part 2 (08:42)

08:42 on Day 6

While I have my personal suspicions, it would be greatly unprofessional to put the blame on any of the four girls without a thorough investigation. I will take a blood sample from each.

Knowing that the Inquisitor will arrive tomorrow by train, the medical stores has put up all their supplies for sale. There should be a lot of modern medicine arriving tomorrow, but the things for sale will be quite useful until then.

The guards seems to be anxious about something. Well, I don't really have time to talk to them right now. I can hear some shouting up ahead...

Damn it! It's one of the Hump's men! I was careless enough to let him catch me off guard.

The Arsonists attack by throwing bottles. You can dodge them if you know where they are coming from and can run straight away. Trying to get close to an Arsonist will in most cases get you killed. This makes them very hard to kill unless you have a rifle. It's very rarely worth killing them, but due to their long range you have to be careful not to get ambushed.

Argh! This stuff burns like hell. He almost got me there. I better take him out quickly before he sets the whole street aflame.

The Mixtures can be traded for ammo and such at the guards, but they are worth very little.

: Do you know what happened in the Cathedral?

Bachelor: Yes.

Alexander: It is sad. But at least this makes the task for us easier. The gossips about the she-cannibal appears to be true. If we catch her, everything will get better. I don't really want to believe it, but all the evidence points to it being either Lara or Julia.

Bachelor: Have you arrested them already?

Alexander: I'm going to. If we can't establish who did it, they will both be locked up until the Inquisitor arrives.

Bachelor: What basis do you have for doing something as drastic as that?

Alexander: Their things were found in the Cathedral. Lara was even identified. Those few from the Cathedral who are still able to speak say that she was there. Whatever shape this she-cannibal takes, I will unmask her. When the disease got into the prison in the City Hall, it happened was just after an unknown woman paid a visit.

Bachelor: But how can you be so sure it's Lara or Julia who did it?

Alexander: All the signs point to them. And who could find an excuse for them?

Bachelor: I will examine their blood. If they aren't filled with the infection, they can't possibly be spreading it.

: Well? Have you managed to find something?

Bachelor: Julia, you are accused of a crime. Saburov wants to make it known that you have broken into the Cathedral.

Julia: Saburov... Ah, so those are the consequences of yesterdays conversation. It's like a domino effect. Why would you tell me this? Do you come to me as a friend, or are you already on duty?

Bachelor: Do you know what happened in the Cathedral?

Julia: Yes, an awful tragedy. But on the background of what's happening, this is simply an annoying accident.

Bachelor: Then tell me honestly... Were you there?

Julia: I know that my things were found in the Cathedral. White silk scarf, silver earrings with small emeralds, golden ringlets, suede gloves and my thin flask of twyrine. Isn't that so?

Bachelor: They say that in their agony the infected scratched at the... visitor, while she killed them with her killing kisses.

Julia: Yes... They do talk a lot. However, I am more concerned with another thing. Of course, the gossips about an immaterial witch are just fairy tales. How did it get inside the Cathedral? You have examined everything, right? The building was ideally prepared, and for two days there were no deaths at all.

Bachelor: Yes, the building was completely tight.

Julia: The Cathedral is cursed, Daniel. Your intention to make it a sanctuary demanded a miracle. And in this empty shell no miracle would ever happen. Everything that has taken place is doing so according to law. She slipped into the Cathedral because it could not be differently. It's the consequence of the supreme order.

Bachelor: I'm starting to get used to your strange logic. I will need a blood sample from you, then we can know for sure if you had anything to do with it.

: Hello, Daniel. Can I help you with anything?

Bachelor: Hello Lara. The commandant thinks that...

Lara: I know why you are here. I'm not offended by it all, so don't say anything.

Bachelor: Where have you been this night?

Lara: I followed your advice and stayed indoors. I learned about what happened in the Cathedral the usual way, by listening to the shouts on the streets. Then later one of my friends came over and told me about the beads...

Bachelor: What beads?

Lara: I had ancient jewelery which I loved very much. I got some very high offers for it, but I kept it for myself. It was a necklace from pieces of the camain tree, with beads of dark metal attached. The carvings were wonderful.

Bachelor: And those beads were found in the Cathedral? ...Are you crying?

Lara: The beads were found in their mouths. These unfortunate ones whispered that Mara sprayed her tears over them, others said that she kissed them, and gave them blood to drink. The people calls the beads "Tears of Lara Ravel". They will think it was me who did it.

Bachelor: I shall tell them that it isn't true.

Lara: Examine my blood, and then you will be sure that what you say is the truth.

Seems like the guards has had their fair share of scraps with the arsonists as well. I'm amazed that they manage to survive such a fight.

These guys are everywhere! Why aren't the guards able to keep them down?

The AI isn't really that good, so this guard just ignored the arsonist for a good half minute despite all my attempts at making him help me.

I had to rush into Anna's house right away to avoid getting killed!

: Ah! I wish I could disappear from this place...

Bachelor: Anna, you are accused of what happened in the Cathedral.

Anna: That wasn't me! It was Klara. That's her! Even the Saburovs recognized that. They are horrified, as I was told. They are being torn apart between their feelings and their duty. Catherina torn her clothes and let her hair down, and she lay at the feet of her husband begging him to leave the daughter to her.

Bachelor: Klara? Why her?

Anna: Because only yesterday she boasted that she knew a secret passage into the Cathedral. And she even said that she would be going inside. Find her! Why is it that when some horror happens in the town I'm always the one being accused?!

Bachelor: Calm down. I need some of your blood.

Anna: My blood? What's this all about? Are you saying there is something wrong with me?

Bachelor: I'm waiting...

Anna: Then just take your sample. I have nothing to be afraid of. I just dislike blood, and so... Ouch! It hurts! Why are you taking that much? I think I'm fainting. You want to find a reason to kill me, but I tell you, I am not guilty!

Bachelor: This blood will show if you are or not.

More trouble! This time it's the guards that are in the middle of a scrap.

The arsonists' bottles drove me back, and I had several rats to deal with as well. I hope I'm not too late...

All dead. Seems like a battle that both sides lost.

Damn it, how many of them are there? I can't deal with them all right now. Time to run!

Phew, seems like the robbers aren't willing to follow me into Ospina's home.

: I've already started to miss you.

Bachelor: Ospina, you are accused of being a cannibal. They will come for you soon.

Ospina: What is this Sheb-nak? It is a malicious spirit that puts on the flesh of a woman on his bones. Sheb-nak can be known by some characteristic attributes... His hands are long, all toes are of the same length, and the bones all show from under his skin.

Bachelor: Great...

Ospina: That's it. I am always glad to help you. If you want, I'll help you catch the monster if you can't cope with that yourself. Almost a week has passed, and the people still perish, perish and perish...

Bachelor: I shall not get used to your mockeries. If the spreader is so easy to find, why hasn't anyone found it yet?

Ospina: Because the search is done by a gang of fools led by you, the all-wise Bachelor Daniel.

Bachelor: I try to avoid talking to fools.

Ospina: You are a fool already, doctor. Don't you already do the things I told you about? You would be better off undressing the maidens. You would see more than through your glasses. That would be a reliable way! Perhaps, you are missing a woman's caress, and that is why you are so mean?

Bachelor: Enough of this! You're just rambling. Give me a sample of your blood.

I now have a sample from each of the accused women. There is a microscope at Rubin's place. I'll take a shortcut through the factory district to get there.

The factory district and the railroad embankment that runs through the southeast part of town are generally quite safe, so if you need to cross the town it's a great route to take.

Rubin isn't here... All his equipment is still here, so I took the opportunity to use the microscope.

Despite all her worries, Lara's sample is clean.

Some traces of heavy medication, but Julia's sample is also clean.

I was almost expecting something strange with her blood besides the possible infection, Ospina's sample is clean and she seems to be very healthy.

That just leaves Anna's sample. We got her now!

It's clean as well! All this for nothing. Well, at least I don't have to worry about what Maria Kain warned me of earlier. None of these women will be brought down by my hand.

Maybe there was some truth in what Anna said. Klara, the Devotress, may have something to do with this. I haven't seen her in days, but maybe Catherina will know where she is.

Deep in thought, I jumped high into the air when I hear banging on the door. But it was just a kid, with a badly written note for me.

Spichka's note posted:

I have found the spreader. I have tracked him down! Hurry up while he is still there.

Spichka

P.S. I went out into the streets because I got some of the vaccine you made yesterday. Otherwise I would not have left. Word of honor! I have already returned to my place.

Summary: All four of the women accused of spreading the infection were clean, so our criminal must be found somewhere else. We have two major options right now.

Look for the Devotress. There might be something true behind her bad reputation.

We also have the option of checking up with Spichka first. It might just be something the kids are blowing out of proportion, but who knows?

I'm also running dangerously low on revolver ammo. Should I pick up a rifle in case we have to deal with more criminals? It's expensive but pretty much worth ever coin. Or should I purchase revolver ammo for the money instead?
