My head is still hurting, and I don't feel like I've got a minute or sleep since yesterday. I can vaguely remembering the general and his men storming the Abattoir before I passed out. He certainly know how to make a good first impression.
The game is a big jerk and doesn't count the time passed out as sleep or anything, so you are just as exhausted now as you were right before midnight. If you carefully planned out your day, you're out of luck! Thankfully, I got a secret plan to keep me going through this day.
Bachelor: Why did you go to the Abattoir?
General Block: I was looking for you.
Bachelor: Is that so?
General Block: Ex-commandant Saburov told me where you most likely would be this past night. I wanted to ask for your advice. What did you manage to find out about the epidemic? Is it possible to stop it, and what purpose can the army hold in this?
Bachelor: I never expected such frankness from you.
General Block: I don't want to be known as the haughty idiot who listens to nobody, just because he has a big gun! You are a specialist. I want to hear your version of the current state of affairs.
Bachelor: The management of the situation is not in my hands.
General Block: The Inquisitor is my enemy. I am more and more convinced of it every hour. I would prefer not to listen to the words of my enemies. Like a dog does not trust a cat, like fire does not believe what water says, so will I, the army general, not trust the words of the Inquisitor.
Bachelor: But why?
General Block: Do you know how many traps there are in the web spun by Inquisitors? The reality will repeatedly surpass your most courageous assumptions many times. I do not want to be a puppet. I suspect, however, that it has already happened. I suspect that I even as I say these words the Inquisitor here is scheming.
Bachelor: It seems to me like you are exaggerating!
General Block: I see you as a person who is able to battle. One who thinks before he acts. Someone who is responsible for all his strikes. You have chosen a worthy enemy and you are capable of breaking him. We are two warriors, and we will have to deal with this evil which may spread from here all over the country. This is no time to be hesitant.
Bachelor: Then consider me your ally. By the way, what are your intentions concerning the Tower?
General Block: That terrible structure on the other side of the river?
Bachelor: Why terrible? Do you have any reason not to like it?
General Block: How does it even stay standing?!
Bachelor: I'm trying to find that out. I believe there is some ingenious architectural trick to it, but I'm not certain yet.
General Block: And what can be found inside?
Bachelor: About a thousand children. They are hiding there from the infection.
General Block: What? Who is looking after them?
Bachelor: They cope perfectly well by themselves, lead by someone from the Kain family.
General Block: Well, if you say they can handle themselves then I'm fine with focusing our efforts elsewhere. Don't they leave the tower?
Bachelor: No, and they let nobody inside.
General Block: Why did you start talking about this?
Bachelor: I wanted to ask you about two things. First of all, I'd like to examine the place myself, if possible. And secondly, they are still kids. If they do something stupid...
General Block: For example?
Bachelor: I don't know. If you hear strange noises from up there or they send you some messenger with talks of a truce or whatever, come to me first.
General Block: Fine. I give you my word. Oh, and a letter for your arrived while you were out. It's on the table.
Bachelor: Thanks.
Invitation from Victor Kain posted:
I feel uneasy, Bachelor. It is a terrible feeling to sum up your life and to realize how very little you have achieved. My time comes to an end. I wish to pass on what little I have that still connects me to this land to my son. But I need your help. Come as soon as possible.
This is the old council house. I think the jail is in the same building. It was abandoned pretty quickly after the first outbreak.
It seems like the army is working very quickly once they decide what to do. Block must have had a long conversation with Saburov, because the patrol guards have finally been relieved and replaced with men armed with rifles. They probably should be wearing more protective clothes, but this should keep all the damn robbers at bay.
Hmm, they have even taken over the duty of watching over the infected districts. That's odd, what could they possibly achieve using a rifle?
Oh... I see now. The infamous disinfection unit. It is certainly a solution to our immediate problems, but certainly not a very elegant one.
I hear some screaming up ahead. Is someone in trouble?
The flamethrower guys are bloody amazing. They don't react until something gets really close, but ANYTHING that comes near them when they are angry will get burnt to a crisp very quickly.
I found this out the first time when a rat I hadn't noticed was following me while I ran past one of these guys. He did kill the rat, though. I had time to see that before the camera hit the pavement.
The army train brought many supplies. This should be enough to keep me going for several more days. Most of this is very high strength and is probably more suited for those who are so ill they can't even walk, so I bought one of the new medical kits. Sure beats using torn cloth for bandages.
This is it! You can now buy a lot of healing items in the stores. We will max out our Exhaustion meter very early today, and that will slowly drain our Health. So what do we do when we get tired? Just bandage up and you're good to go for a few more hours.
It's funny that you can go without sleep for weeks as long as you can find enough ways to heal yourself. Still, given how much trouble I've had with that I still value a good night's sleep.
There are still guards around, but only ones that are patrolling. I don't think you can trade with them anymore, though.
Bachelor: What does it mean? You want to die?!
Victor Kain: We are back again at the starting point. We settle the question of death differently. The disappearance of the former person and the appearance of an absolutely different person from it's ashes... Is that really death?
Bachelor: It's all deep philosophy to me. Surely this can't be the reason you called me?
Victor Kain: It is. Please, hear me out. I have no other means left to influence my son. Now the city is occupied by the soldiers, and they will turn the Polyhedron to a besieged fortress. Khan will provoke the rage of the military. I am afraid that his unwise actions will result in the destruction of the Tower.
Bachelor: Surely they wouldn't do that while anyone is still inside? Why is the tower so important?
Victor Kain: Why? Not only is there over a thousand children inside with no safe place to go, but the Tower itself is such a previous and unique work that I would sacrifice anything to save it. There are many who would support me in this, even those who would normally call themselves my enemies. It simply can't be allowed.
Bachelor: I doubt it.
Victor Kain: There is a secret about the Polyhedron. Nobody knows if it appeared as a result of random facts coinciding or if it was in accordance to some genial plan. But it works. I don't know if it will ever open up to you. I would like you to get in and make sure my words are true yourself.
Bachelor: I would like to get inside as well. I am worried about those living there. Remember what horrible things happened to the Apiary!
Victor Kain: And if you succeed in gaining the confidence of my little Khan you will also do a final favor to our family. Reconcile me with my son. Convince him to listen to me.
Bachelor: And what do you want him to do then?
Victor Kain: Let the children set the Polyhedron free, when the time comes. It will be in just two days. Otherwise Maria might die, and the sacrifices of me and George will certainly be in vain.
Bachelor: What crazy thing would Maria do to put her life in danger?
Victor Kain: She will have to become my successor, and take what I guard now. It will doom her to death and it will lead to the complete disappearance of our family. Maria will die and the spirit of our memory which we pass from one to another will forever dissolve into emptiness.
Bachelor: I don't understand a word of what you are saying.
Victor Kain: Do you believe in the opportunity to manipulate reincarnation?
Bachelor: No.
Victor Kain: As for us, we not only believe! We have been practicing such things for generations already. Don't ask me for the details, it's all too complicated. Please, convince my son to open the Polyhedron for us when the time comes.
Bachelor: Well, I would have tried anyway, so I will try to talk to your son for you.
I don't understand why Victor keeps going on about all this, but I might as well talk to his son. I need to investigate the Polyhedron anyway, and this might lead to a way inside.
Halfway up I started to feel very sick, and my motion blurred. I almost fell off the staircase! Without railing, this place is very dangerous. It is quite literally a fortress.
Doghead: Nobody can enter into the fortress! It's the order of Khan. You might carry the Sand Filth on your raincoat.
Bachelor: I have brought you important news.
Doghead: Tell us and we might have an answer for you.
Bachelor: I need to go inside and talk to Khan directly.
Doghead: You will not enter that easily. The only one whom we trust is Maria, our sister and patroness. That is what Khan told. You do not look like her messenger.
Bachelor: But I look like the one whom Victor trusts.
Doghead: Then say the password.
Bachelor: I want to see the Agate Hole.
I have no idea where you are supposed to get this password, but Daniel seems to know it regardless of how soon you go here. As last time, step into the symbol behind the kids to teleport.
Bachelor: Yes.
Khan Kain: I am ready to discuss this now.
Bachelor: And I am ready to listen to you. What can I do to earn your trust?
Khan Kain: We need weapons.
Bachelor: Are you thinking of the artillery cannon?
Khan Kain: You are wrong, and you can drop the irony. I need a couple of army rifles, with ammunition of course. I've heard that they are very accurate at long ranges.
Bachelor: May I wonder why?
Khan Kain: Is Aglaja communicating with Block already?
Bachelor: No, as far as I understand they hate each other. So far each of them pretends that the other one simply doesn't exist here.
Khan Kain: But surely Block has had time to understand the situation here? Does he know how many we are here in the Polyhedron?
Bachelor: If you insist, I can go and tell him.
Khan Kain: Oh, so you are a partner to him now?
Bachelor: Not really, I do not have as much authority as a general.
Khan Kain: If Block becomes aware of how well organized we are and how many of us there really are, he will most likely try to storm the Tower. If he knows that we have weapons, he will think twice about that. A couple of shots from up high would convince him to leave us alone. What do you think?
Bachelor: You have been plotting since dawn, I think. But you are just bluffing about actually using them.
Khan Kain: Well, yes. We will not start a fight if we don't have to. If you get us those rifles we will not only let you into the Polyhedron, but we will also show you the treasure that destiny has brought us.
Bachelor: Tempting... I will see what I can do. Wait for me to return.
Summary: Victor Kain has some suicidal idea and wants to reconcile with his son Khan Kain as soon as he can. It has something to do with the Tower and reincarnation or whatever.
Anyway, we are curious about what's inside the Tower so we struck a deal with Khan. If we bring him 5 working rifles he'll let us inside.
Is it such a good idea to bring weapons to these kids? Khan seems responsible enough but I can't say the same about the other ones in there.
